In Memory

Helen Howell (Norris)

Helen Louise Norris, 79, went to be with her Lord, October 8, 2023. She was born April 30, 1944 to Eldon E. Howell and Wanda L. Fields Howell, in Wichita, Kansas. Helen graduated from Wichita East High School following which she attended Oklahoma Christian University for two years.

Helen and Tom were married August 14, 1964. They lived in Junction City, Kansas, for five years.

During that time Helen finished her Bachelor degree in home economics, went on to earn a Masters degree in Foods and Nutrition from Kansas State University and they welcomed their daughter Marty. They then moved to Chisholm, Minnesota, where Tom taught school and they served the Lord at the Hibbing Church of Christ. In Minnesota they welcomed their son Eric and daughter Lisa. In 1979 they moved to the family farm south of Wellington.

After moving to the farm, Helen became active in Farm Bureau. She served on the Kansas Farm Bureau Board of Directors. She served on the county, state, and national Women’s Leadership Committee. Helen enjoyed teaching Ag in the Classroom. She had many lessons, but her favorite was telling about cotton.

Helen was a faithful follower of God, a member of the Wellington Church of Christ, and loved to study the Bible. Helen found the best way to learn was to teach Bible classes. She was passionate about teaching children’s classes, Vacation Bible School, and ladies classes.

Helen always strove to share her faith. After Tom retired from teaching, she and Tom spent weeks every year doing short term mission work in Thailand and Cambodia.

Helen loved to sew. She found pleasure in creating innumerable handmade outfits and items for her family and friends. She used her talent to teach 4-Hers and anyone else who wanted to learn.

Helen is survived by her husband Tom, daughter, Marty Sue Karguth and her husband Don S. Karguth. Son, Eric T. Norris and his wife Jennifer M. Norris.
